Jardins de Rosa de Luxemburg

Parks

Jardins de Rosa de LuxemburgThese Gardens are a wonderful green space for the neighbourhood in which they are located and it also serves as a luxurious playground for the school and nursery that is situated right next to it.
The gardens have different terraces that are connected through small stairways that are needed due to differences in height. Also one has a great view over the Carmel hill from the area. The park has a clear orientation towards forest vegetation, which makes it a nice space to rest in the shade and to be outside with your children and dogs.

Guineueta Park

Parks

guineaueta parkHaving been planned since the 50s and finally having been opened in 1970 the Guineueta Park aimed to provide some green space and recreational areas to the many immigrants that arrived in the 50s and 60s of the former century and that settled in this area. Today the park remains to be one of Barcelona’s liveliest and busiest parks as it is a meeting point and social space for both residents of the Guineueta and the Verdum district. The central square of the park is the place for meetings and celebrations and on Sundays the Sardana (Catalan music and dance) group L'Ideal d'en Clavé from the Las Roquetes district offers Sardana dances in this area. These make the park a lively and active area that has an atmosphere comparable to that of Central Park in New York as people of all age groups meet and socialize in this area throughout the day.

Gardens of the Princep de Girona

Parks

gardens of the princep de gironaThese Gardens have been built on the grounds of the former Girona cavalry barracks which appears incredible when considering what the park has turned into since then.
There are many different opportunities offered so that it is easy to spend an entire day relaxing in the Gardens. First of all the nice lake with various interconnected small islands is worth visiting but there are many other areas such as children’s playgrounds, a  dog run, ping-pong tables and a bar with tables under the shade of the pine trees.
All of these areas invite to rest, relax, play or eat and families can enjoy some good quality time here together.

Gardens of Joan Brossa

Parks

gardens of joan brossaOriginally being used by the army, then being transformed into Montjuïc's Fun Fair in 1965, the city council finally converted the area into the Gardens of Joan Brossa 32 years later when the popularity of the fair decreased and the council started looking into alternative usages. In 2000 then the decision was made to construct the Gardens as we know them today. The area is now a wonderful example of how neglected landscape can be successfully converted into a popular urban recreational space. The park has characteristics of a forest as well as those of a city garden and it provides many opportunities for relaxing, playing, exercising, etc. to its visitors.

Gardens of Ca n'Altimira

Parks

gardens of ca n'altimiraThe Gardens of Ca n'Altimira have been created in the middle of the last century by an extremely wealthy and extravagant figure -Josep Altimira- who was known for his extraordinary parties and guests. After his death he donated his property to the public as he had no heirs and ever since then the Gardens have become a very romantic, unique and popular area for locals. The park has all elements of a private neighborhood garden and impresses through its many more than 100 years old trees that create a dense and almost wild atmosphere through the interplay of light and shadow.
Another unique element is the fact that the Gardens are located at a higher level than the rest of the land that creates two different parts that are connected by two bridges. Overall, the area offers romantic and silent spots to its guest and is well worth a visit.

Gaudí's dead

Not much people know how Gaudí died. From what it known he was hit by a tram in front of Sagrada Familia when he crossed the street aiming to go to the construction side of his masterpiece.

He lay in the hospital "Hospital de la Santa Creu", but people didn't recognise the famous artist because of his neglected appereance.

Only three days later, a friend of him found him in this hospital and asked for a private room for him. The same day, 10 July 1926 he died.

He was buried in the midst of La Sagrada Família.
