During the years 1901 and 1908, Gaudí built a house in the neighborhood of Sant Gervasi (Barcelona). The house was commissioned by María Sagués who was the widow of the policitian Jaume Figueras.
Before the construction work of this building could start, the ruins of the residence of the Catalan king Martí I must been removed off. Thanks to the latter king, the building has been namend Bellesguard, because in a letter he named the estate "Bell Esguard" what means "Beautiful View".
In order to honour to the ancient king, Gaudí used a Neogothic style.
The interior of the builing has a semi-basement, ground floor, apartment, and attic. Most of the building is constructured with brick walls and brick pilars.
But most notable structurally speaking is the solution of the wrought of the attic and dining room.
In the dining room a few skinny arches substitute for small beams and above sits a partitioned, glazed-tiled vault just like the one which can be seen in the ceiling of the crypt of Colonia Güell.
The roof itself is holded by 8 pilars which each one has a different form. Mushroom-shaped capitols which are made of projecting brick, serve to support a flat partitioned panelformed by various thick alternating tiles and bricks.
From the panel rise false arches with bases of brick spirals, each one of which sticks out a bit more than the previous.
Regarding the exterior of the building, it is dressed with local stones in grey and green coulor. All facades have quite a lot of windows and window-frames with lobed arches - kind of gothic style- and a type of pillowing of square, hexagonal, and octogonal pieces around various hollow patches.
