Salvador Dali museum

Museums

Salvador Dali was born in Figueres, which is town in Catalonia north from Barcelona. He lived also in Barcelona, but his heart was always in his hometown, so the museum of Dali was founded in Figueres. The building of the museum was a theater, which was bombed during second world war and it stayed quite long time in really bad condition. Dali held his first exhibition in that theater, so it was beloved place for him. Dali himself opened his museum in 1974, because he had a big collection which he wanted to share with everyone.

Now the most important Dali works are there. Museum collection is not consisting only with paintings but sculptures, 3-dimensional collages, mechanical devices, strange rooms and other things from Dali's imagination as well. There is also Dali's art collection from other artists like El Greco, Marcel Duchamp and Antoni Pitxot, who became a director of the museum after Dali's death. There are sometimes small Dali exhibitions in Barcelona as well.

Gaudí's dead

Not much people know how Gaudí died. From what it known he was hit by a tram in front of Sagrada Familia when he crossed the street aiming to go to the construction side of his masterpiece.

He lay in the hospital "Hospital de la Santa Creu", but people didn't recognise the famous artist because of his neglected appereance.

Only three days later, a friend of him found him in this hospital and asked for a private room for him. The same day, 10 July 1926 he died.

He was buried in the midst of La Sagrada Família.
