Parks

Parc de la Maquinista de Sant Andreu

Parks

Parc de Maquinista de Sant AndreuThis park that is built in between Ferran Junoy and Sant Adria Street is a perfect place to rest and relax for residents of the Bon Pastor neighborhood. The area is divided into two main parts that are surrounded by large lawns and trees and that are separated by red brickwork. The center of the park also houses a large pond, named Narcís Monturiol in the shape of an orange slice. This main attraction of the park is also used to irrigate the rich vegetation of the area. Additionally, this green area is known for its large amount of trees (in total 270) that have grown to significant heights as the majority of them has been planted more than 100 years ago. Also, the trees create a great resting place in the shade that is frequently taken advantage of by locals.
Overall, the park is a very nice area to meet and socialize and to spend some good quality time outside.

Parc de la Font Florida

Parks

Font Florida parkThe Font Florida park is one of many parks in Barcelona, which was created quite late in comparison to many of the other ones. The park was created during the 1990s and is located in a residential area giving natural spaces for the residents to enjoy. The park is also perfect as a play area for children considering that it is surrounded
with residential houses.

Parc de la Creueta de Col

Parks

parc de la creueta del collThe Parc de la Creueta de Coll is one of the most popular meeting places in Barcelona to hang out outside during the summer as it offers a large lake that is one of the city’s nicest swimming pools and a lot of space to sit down and rest in either the sun or in the shade. The huge square (6000 m2) that is in the center of the park offers a great children’s playground and the terraces above the lake that are surrounded by thick vegetation offer wonderful views over the park and one can watch the world go by.
The park shows how a former quarry can be converted successfully into a green area and its history gives it also a special note.

Parc de la Barceloneta

Parks

Parc de la BarcelonetaThe Parc de la Barceloneta is situated close to Vila Olímpica and the sea. It is a modern construction and more an open transitional space then a park. However, this park is perfectly integrated and reminds of the space's history with the gas industry. The open space around an old gas tank connects the Passeig Marítim with Carrer Doctor Aiguader. This park has a football field and playground for children and therefore it is much used by local residents.

It has been constructed by the architects Jordi Henrich and Olga Tarrasó. They knew how to take advantage of the elements from the old gas industry which was torn down in 1989. Thus, the laminated steel gasometer structure designed by the engineer Claudi Gil Serra in 1868 has been preserved, as has the water tower designed by the modernist architect Josep Domènech i Estapà and built in 1905.

Gaudí's dead

Not much people know how Gaudí died. From what it known he was hit by a tram in front of Sagrada Familia when he crossed the street aiming to go to the construction side of his masterpiece.

He lay in the hospital "Hospital de la Santa Creu", but people didn't recognise the famous artist because of his neglected appereance.

Only three days later, a friend of him found him in this hospital and asked for a private room for him. The same day, 10 July 1926 he died.

He was buried in the midst of La Sagrada Família.
