Parks

Parc de l'Espanya Industria

Parks

Parc de L'Espanya IndustrialThe Parc de l'Espanya Industrial is situated close to Estatió Sants-station in Barcelona. It has been built up in 1985 by the architects Luís Peña Ganchegui and Francesc Rius. At the same place has been an industrial area before but today the park does not remind of this. It has many green areas and an artificial little lake. Famous is this park for its nice lighthouses around the lake. Even if the opinion of habitants around this park is divided in admiration and distaste, both of them are often sitting in this park as it is the only green area in this district.
Anyway, this park is a nice alternative if you are are waiting for a train in Estació Sants.

Parc de Joan Miro

Parks

Parc Joan MiroThis beautiful park that is dedicated to the world famous artist Joan Miro is so much more than just a regular park to walk through. Rather the Gardens offer beautiful surprises in basically every entrance of the park as they all give access to different parts. The main part -the square- is a 6400 m2 big area that is designed to walk through and here the famous 22m sculpture Dona I Ocell (Woman and Bird) by Joan Miro can be found as well.  The other part is a forest area with a selection of impressive pine and palm trees and in which a variety of bars can be found that are popular meeting places for locals. There are also six children playgrounds that enable families to enjoy some good quality time together in the park as well.
Finally, there is a library in yet another part of the park that finds it home in an elegant building surrounded by water canals and wonderful vegetation.

Parc de Carls I

Parks

Parc de Carls IHaving been built in the 1990s on the former industrial part of Poblenou the Parc de Carls I was part of the large urban renovation process that took place due to the Olympic Games being held in Barcelona in 1992.
The park itself is separated by 4 streets that divide it into 6 parts that are all distinct in character and that form the area into a unique puzzle of elements.
Worth mentioning is the waterfall that falls into a canal that then stretches out along the entire park. Also, the rich and varied vegetation together with wide grassy areas enable a relaxing walk or a nice rest in the shade. Additionally, this park offers one of the only and largest dog walking areas in Barcelona.

Parc de Can Sabaté

Parks

Parc de San Sabaté This park is a member of the family of modern construction parks built in between high walls of blocks of flats and provides a wonderful green space to the residents of this neighbourhood through its rich vegetation, including a variety of fruit trees and wide open spaces.
Among modern parks the Can Sabaté probably offers the most interesting variety of plants with tall palm trees and fruit trees as well as many different bushes.
Also, there is a wonderful fountain in shape of a pyramid in a huge and sunny square in the middle of the gardens that is the centrepiece of the park and that contrasts the other shady parts of the area through its wide, bright and open space.
So the Can Sabaté Park offers you both, sunny and busy areas as well as quiet and shady places.

Gaudí's dead

Not much people know how Gaudí died. From what it known he was hit by a tram in front of Sagrada Familia when he crossed the street aiming to go to the construction side of his masterpiece.

He lay in the hospital "Hospital de la Santa Creu", but people didn't recognise the famous artist because of his neglected appereance.

Only three days later, a friend of him found him in this hospital and asked for a private room for him. The same day, 10 July 1926 he died.

He was buried in the midst of La Sagrada Família.
