Originally being used by the army, then being transformed into Montjuïc's Fun Fair in 1965, the city council finally converted the area into the Gardens of Joan Brossa 32 years later when the popularity of the fair decreased and the council started looking into alternative usages. In 2000 then the decision was made to construct the Gardens as we know them today. The area is now a wonderful example of how neglected landscape can be successfully converted into a popular urban recreational space. The park has characteristics of a forest as well as those of a city garden and it provides many opportunities for relaxing, playing, exercising, etc. to its visitors.
The Gardens are especially popular among children as they still offer many attractions and playgrounds that have been built to preserve some of the former Fun Fair character of the area.
Furthermore, the park offers dense vegetation combined with modern architecture and art that make these Gardens a special place to visit for anybody.
