In 1900 Gaudí was commissioned to design an English park in Barcelona. The aim of the project was to make housing and nature equally. Antoni Gaudí planned then a garden with more than 60 villas. But very soon, the original project failed because buyers should have to accept by contract that they won't have trees in their garden and no fences higher than 80 cm.
After all, there were only three houses built: the home of the Güell family, now a school, the home of Gaudi (in which he lived from 1906 until his death in 1926), now a museum, and the home of a friend that still inhabited is.
The park opened in 1922 and it is since 1984 on the list of UNESCO world heritage.
Popular attractions in the park are the 3000 sp m terrace as well as the littre dragon close to the main entrance. The latter one is dressed in colorful ceramic fracture and has become a symbol of Barcelona and souvenir shops sell miniature copies of it.
