If you are in the heart of Barcelona in the Eixample district and you are looking for green space then go to the University of Barcelona which opened in 1995 for the public. Most people does not know that this university has a very nice garden where not only students can have a rest and recover from the stress in the city centre. However, this small garden (1.08 hectares) has among the eighty species of plants in the garden, some of the oldest trees in the city.
This garden is especially well-know because of its botanical diversity. There are exotic species such as the ombu, the only tree that grows in the Argentine Pampa and under which the roots lie or the yucca, with several examples that belong to the first plantations from the end of the nineteenth century.
There are typical Mediterranean trees as well, such as Holm oak, cypress, carob, olive tree, bitter orange, fig and the Italian stone pine.
