Sagrada Familia in the News

The pope will visit the Sagrada Familia in Barcelona in November 2010. The Pope is said to be especially interested in visiting the church because of Antoni Gaudìs' devotion to the family unit, which he believes is extremely important, plus the Cathedrals fame in the art and architecture worlds.

Officials are worried that the Pope´s visit may cooincide with the Spanish General Elections, however cardenal Tarcisio Bertone sees no reason why the visit should clash.

Greenpeace activists scaled the Sagrada Familia on Monday to protest climate change ahead of the  five day UN climate change talks.

The activists attempted to unfurl a 600 square meter banner saying "World Leaders make the climate call" from the top of the iconic church in Barcelona, but were prevented from doing so by the wind. Instead, they hung two smaller banners from the giant cranes hovering over the unfinished work of Gaudí, saying "Save the climate".
