Gaudi was in the army for 3 years from 1874-1877. He never faced combat but it was a requirement he had to fulfill. He enlisted on the 7th July and had to pay 37 pesetase for his uniform.

The plans that Gaudi designed for a New York skyscraper were completely disregarded but when the Twin Towers were destroyed in the 9/11 attacks, the plans were re-proposed for the design of the new World Trade Centre.

 

Even though Gaudi was reasonably wealthy he dressed very impoverishly and often gave money to the poor.

 

Gaudi's father sacrificed a lot for his son. He first sold his workshop in Reus to accommodate and support his Antonio's studies in Barcelona and then when his wife and other son Francesc died, he sold his only remaining plot of land to finance his son's endeavours further.
